About Deirdre
Deirdre began a career in nursing at age 18 years travelling to London to earn H dip in Adult General Nursing and later a Bachelor of Science Degree (Honours) in Adult General Nursing via Waterford Institute of Technology. Having worked in Renal Medicine in London for some time Deirdre then worked at Saint Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny for 18 years gaining vast experience and skills. Area of work included general surgical unit, gynaecological surgical unit, operating theatres, ward management, bed management and discharge coordinator.
Deirdre completed her four year programme in Traditional Chinese Medicine via The College of Oriental Medicine in Cork, awarding her a Diploma in Acupuncture, Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine and Diploma in Tui Na Massage.
Having spent time working in a nursing capacity at MSD Pharmaceutical Carlow, Deirdre welcomed the opportunity to set up and run an Acupuncture clinic for staff onsite, which is a popular busy clinic.
Deirdre also runs a private Acupuncture clinic in Kilkenny City where she welcomes clients to bring their medical history and medication list, blood work results and procedures if any. With Deirdre’s background in nursing it is important to her that consideration to any input from mainstream medicine is given at the planning stage of treatment for her clients. It is her belief that both Mainstream Medicine and Chinese Medicine can work very well together rather than in isolation.
Deirdre lives in Kilkenny with her husband and three sons.
